Gemeinsam mit internationalen KünstlerInnen verfolgt das Sommerprogramm von Stadtkuratorin Hamburg unter dem Titel It Might Be Possible that the World Itself is Without Meaning* die Frage nach einer zeitgenössischen Weltgesellschaft. An markanten Orten in Hamburg finden Performances, Aktionen und Interventionen statt. In seinem Projekt möchte der Künstler Ricardo Basbaum (Rio de Janeiro) gemeinsam mit TeilnehmerInnen aus Hamburg zusammenarbeiten.

Seit den frühen 1990er Jahren evoziert der Künstler Ricardo Basbaum künstlerische Begegnungen, indem er Personen einlädt, sich mit den Symbol- und Regelsystemen auseinandersetzen, die in Objekte, Texte, Diagramme, Pläne und Spiele eingeschrieben sind. Seit vier Jahren entwickelt er die Serie Collective Conversation, die sich mit den Verschiebungen zwischen Schreiben, Lesen und Sprechen befassen. Unseren Willen zu sprechen und öffentliche Dialoge zu entwickeln (Politics of Voicing), wird Basbaum in der neuen Arbeit Membranosa für Stadtkuratorin Hamburg untersuchen, in der er zwei Orte in Hamburg, den Hansaplatz in St. Georg und den Stübenplatz auf der Veddel mittels seiner Struktur der NBP (New Bases for Personality) in Beziehung zueinander setzt. In einer gemeinsamen Forschungsarbeit wird ein Skript für eine kollektive Konversation erarbeitet, die öffentlich aufgeführt und zusammen mit Filmmaterialien als Soundarbeit präsentiert wird. Für die TeilnehmerInnen werden HVV-Tickets zur Verfügung gestellt sowie Imbiss und Getränke. Für die öffentliche Präsentation wird ein Honorar gezahlt. 

Ricardo Basbaums Arbeiten und Projekte wurden unter anderem gezeigt in: MoMa, New York (2014); The Showroom, London (2013); Biennale São Paulo (2012); Ludlow 38, New York (2009); Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2009); Shanghai Biennale (2007); Documenta 12, Kassel (2007). Er lehrt als Professor am Instituto de Artes, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro und war Gastprofessor an der University of Chicago (2013).

Working with international artists, the summer program of Stadtkuratorin Hamburg with the title It Might Be Possible that the World Itself is Without Meaning* will examine the question of a contemporary world society. Interventions, performances, and actions will take place in prominent locations in Hamburg. For his project the artist Ricardo Basbaum (Rio de Janeiro) wants to work together with participants from Hamburg. 

Since the early 1990s, Basbaum has encouraged artistic encounters by inviting people to engage with systems of symbols and rules embedded in objects, scripts, diagrams, maps, and games. In his projects, Basbaum uses artistic and graphic communication tactics, which are characterized in that they are both vernacular and abstract and thereby easy to learn, interpret and memorize. Through interaction with these sets of visual and linguistic terms for the production of an artwork, he attempts to collectively consider the material, social and spatial membrane between artist, art system, art object, and participant. In the last four years he started to develop the Collective Conversation, a series of works centered in the shift between writing, reading and speech. Our will to talk and develop public dialogues (politics of voicing) Basbaum will examine in a new commission for Stadtkuratorin Hamburg by connecting two places in Hamburg, Hansaplatz in St. Georg and Stübenplatz on Veddel with his structure NBP (New Bases for Personality). In a collective research a script for a collective conversation will be developed, which will be performed in public and together with video footage will be presented as a sound piece. For the workshops HVV tickets will be provided as well as snacks and drinks.For the public performance a fee will be payed.

Ricardo Basbaum’s work and projects have been exhibited at, among others: MoMa, New York (2014); The Showroom, London (2013); Biennale São Paulo (2012); Ludlow 38, New York (2009); Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2009); Shanghai Biennale (2007); Documenta 12, Kassel (2007). He teaches as a Professor at the Instituto de Artes, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, and served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago (2013).
